Eye Healthy Travel Tips
TRAVEL IS BACK!
Here are a few tips and tricks to help you travel worry free and keep your eyes nice and healthy!
It has been a while for some of us since the last time we travelled, and I am sure there are lots of things on your checklist to make sure you are ready to go. Travelling is good for the soul, but if you're anything like me sometimes your body reacts poorly to being out of a normal routine. Here are some tips to make the transition as smooth as possible for your eyes.
Bring backups - If you wear glasses or contact lenses bring back-ups of each... accidents happen, and you never want to be stuck without vision. *As a contact lens wearer you should always have back up glasses on hand in case of an emergency or an eye infection where you can't wear your contacts.
Take a picture - Screenshot your prescription in case something happens to your glasses or contact lenses on vacation.
On the plane - If possible, remove your contact lenses and keep lubricating drops on hand (*not VISINE)...the recycled air in planes is very dry, our skin and eyes tend to get dried out by the end of a flight.
Hydrate - Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your flight, I can't drink a ton of water on flight without running to the bathroom 100 times, so I like to do some pre-hydration instead!
Contact lens hygiene - Pack contact lens solution (*NEVER use tap water, this puts you at risk of serious infections) + follow the "three S's" ... don't Sleep, Swim, or Shower in your lenses to prevent infection and redness.
Sun Protection - Always wear your sunglasses and sunscreen to protect your eyes and fight against wrinkles
Disconnect - Unplug from your screens and reconnect with the wonderful world around you, especially after the past couple years of increased device use your eyes would LOVE a break
Above all have an AMAZING time - make sure to disconnect from your devices and connect with the wonderful world around you; after the past couple years of increased screen time your eyes would LOVE a break!
Safe travels!
